Applying Metalevel Argumentation Frameworks to Support Medical Decision Making

People are increasingly employing artificial intelligence as the basis for decision-support systems (DSSs) to assist them in making well-informed decisions. Adoption of DSS is challenging when such lack support, or evidence, justifying their recommendations. DSSs widely applied medical domain, due complexity domain and sheer volume data that render manual processing difficult. This article proposes a metalevel argumentation-based system can reason with heterogeneous (e.g., body measurements, electronic health records, clinical guidelines), while incorporating preferences human beneficiaries those The constructs template-based explanations recommendations it makes. proposed framework has been implemented support stroke patients its functionality tested pilot study. User feedback shows run effectively over an extended period.
